The Health Professional Student Association (HPSA) will attend the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP) conference in Cincinnati, Ohio from June 26-30, 2024. HPSA is pleased to support NAAHP as a Bronze Level sponsor during their 50th-anniversary commemoration, which will be attended by hundreds of prehealth advisors and admissions professionals.

“The Student Doctor Network, which we publish, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, so we join them in celebrating a key milestone. The NAAHP’s professional development resources for health professions advisors promote high standards for advising at colleges and universities, and we are thrilled to support their efforts,” said Laura Turner, Executive Director of HPSA.

Advisor of the Year Award Announcement

HPSA will participate in the Exhibit Hall at booth #762, which will open at 4:15 PM on June 27. Immediately prior, at 4:00 PM, HPSA will announce the winners for the 2024 Advisor of the Year recognition at the booth.

The Advisor of the Year award is annually chosen from student nominations, and the HPSA Student Advisory Council selects two awardees.

“We are excited to recognize these outstanding advisors as Advisor of the Year,” said Thi Preysner, current pre-medical student and HPSA SAC member. “A great advisor is a mentor, cheerleader, and guide, and can make a huge difference in students’ lives.”

Presentations

Emil Chuck, Ph.D., HPSA Director of Advising Services, will conduct several presentations during the conference. Presentation topics will include the groundbreaking 2023 Situational Judgment Test Experience survey, how students can approach these tests, and the “Other Impactful Experiences” essay recently added to the standard American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) application for medical schools. Dr. Chuck will also present a poster on HPSA’s Treating Transgender Patients course, a free module from its flagship Becoming a Student Doctor curriculum.
