Emil Chuck, PhD, Director of Advising Services at HPSA, recently had a submission entitled “Generative AI Learners Survey” accepted by the AAMC’s Advancing AI across Academic Medicine Resource Collection for inclusion in their inaugural set of resources.

This 20-item, IRB-exempt self-evaluation helps curriculum and student affairs professionals document learners’ attainment of generative AI skills, competencies, and attitudes throughout the curriculum. The survey, developed using REDCap, may also be administered within an institution to identify critical cultural (e.g., hidden curriculum) drivers in generative AI use to inform policies about acceptable use.

“This survey allows health professions programs to track how attitudes about genAI tools change as students and faculty gain more competence,” said Dr. Chuck, “I am excited that other programs can use this survey tool to begin benchmarking their progress with genAI adoption with other programs.”

The newly launched Advancing AI across Academic Medicine collection is a repository of timely, freely accessible resources designed to help all medical schools, academic health systems, and teaching hospitals effectively integrate AI into their educational environments. The collection is intended to address the immediate need to share practical resources, acknowledging that further research and scholarship in this area will continue to develop over time. The open and available collection may be accessed at: www.aamc.org/about-us/mission-areas/medical-education/advancing-ai-resource-collection.
