{"id":1661,"date":"2022-10-26T06:48:21","date_gmt":"2022-10-26T06:48:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.hpsa.org\/?post_type=news_detail&#038;p=1661"},"modified":"2022-10-26T06:50:23","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T06:50:23","slug":"hpsa-courses-featured-at-national-conferences","status":"publish","type":"news_detail","link":"https:\/\/www.hpsa.org\/hpsa-courses-featured-at-national-conferences\/","title":{"rendered":"HPSA Courses Featured at National Conferences"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two recently released courses from the Health Professional Student Association (HPSA) have been featured in presentations at national conferences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A poster presentation on the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpsa.org\/programs\/courses\/becoming-a-student-doctor\/\">Becoming a Student Doctor<\/a>\u201d course was featured at the <a href=\"https:\/\/academy-professionalism.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Academy of Professionalism in Health Care<\/a> conference on October 21, 2022. Emil Chuck, Ph.D., Director of Advising Services for the Health Professional Student Association, presented a poster titled \u201cBecoming a Student Doctor: an online aspirational interprofessional course on social justice and cultural competency.\u201d The presentation detailed the course, its curriculum, represented professions, feedback, and opportunities for additional course development. It additionally highlighted HPSA\u2019s free short course, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpsa.org\/programs\/courses\/treating-trans-patients\/\">Treating Trans Patients<\/a>,\u201d which was developed as an offshoot of the more comprehensive \u201cBecoming a Student Doctor\u201d course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpsa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Emil-Chuck-HPSA-Becoming-a-Student-Doctor-2022-Virtual-Conference-Poster.pptx.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hpsa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/HPSASlide.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1662\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hpsa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/HPSASlide.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.hpsa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/HPSASlide-100x75.webp 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Click to view the poster presentation<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initial draft of the curriculum of \u201cTreating Trans Patients\u201d was featured in a presentation given at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medpride.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Medical Student Pride Alliance<\/a> virtual conference held in April 2022. The curriculum and content were further developed and refined before its launch in conjunction with Pride month in June 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Becoming a Student Doctor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpsa.org\/programs\/courses\/becoming-a-student-doctor\/\">Becoming a Student Doctor<\/a>&#8221; is an advanced, six-month, self-paced online course that empowers students to understand the complexities of the healthcare system better and articulate how they see themselves serving within it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The course promotes interprofessionalism and is open to all aspiring health professional students, including pre-dental, pre-pharmacy, pre-veterinary, and other pre-health students, as well as pre-medical students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Topics covered in the course include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 National healthcare priorities<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Healthcare shortages<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Interprofessionalism<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Academic competencies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Pre-professional competencies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Embracing inclusion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Systems competencies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Situational judgment development<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 Making a school list<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7 The voyage ahead<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Treating Trans Patients<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The free \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hpsa.org\/programs\/courses\/treating-trans-patients\/\">Treating Trans Patients<\/a>\u201d course is available via Google Classroom and contains over nine hours of audio and video content, with the majority of voices coming from the transgender community, along with companion reflection assignments.
